THE ARTIST

Holding a diploma of the Art School of Sassari. Qualified to teaching artistic education at the secondary school and drawing and history of art at the secondary high school, Pia Ruggiu begins the expositive activity when very young, bringing into focus her interest on the pictorical means and on the themes of the artistic identity in its interactions on the social. She develops later on, by the use of different tecniques and materials, plastic and constructive interests, which are reflected by the recent set of “Polymaterici”, applying to a prevalent geometrical installation.The set characterized by graphic signs and in many cases by a formal marked reduction, prefers the white colour of the neutral colours. Critical notes are published on catalogues, newspapers, reviews, books of art. Pia Ruggiu’s works are part of public and private collections, churches, art galleries, museums. Numerous are the presences to shows and personal exhibitions. In her new works Pia Ruggiu seems to make a compromise between the forms of the places where she lives and her artistic vocabulary, thus her sculptures can be appreciated as extracts of cliffs and homages to Brancusi, Burri or Moore.
